NUSHEEN IN ACTION!
How old were you when you started playing the violin? Why did you begin?
I started playing violin when I was seven years old. My dad had a store that was right next to an violin shop and I would constantly go into the shop and look at them working on the instruments and I was super intrigued. My dad noticed, and he started me off with lessons. I also loved listening to classical and Persian music when I was a kid and I can’t imagine it not being in my life now.
What has been your favorite performing experience so far?
I have been so lucky to have had so many varied performance experiences. Everything from performing in arenas with 20,000 people in attendance to small house concerts with just 20 people. What I have learned from that is no matter the size of the venue, the best part is the connection you not only gain with the audience, but also the musicians you play with. There are something so powerful about being able to communicate through music.
Besides Bollywood & Pop, what other styles of music do you love to play?
If my other answers weren’t a dead giveaway, I love playing classical, persian, and celtic music!
Do you sing or play any other instruments?
I love to sing, but not in public. I can play viola and oboe.
What activity makes you lose track of time?
Playing music definitely makes me lose track of time. If I am really enjoying what I am working on, hours can go by without me realizing it. Reading is another big activity that I can get lost in.
Do you teach violin or any other instruments? Private lessons or some other context?
I am is the founder and owner of Studio Muse in Sterling, Virginia, a creative space for private instruction, chamber music, and intimate performances designed to foster diverse musical experiences.
What music did you grow up listening to?
I primarily listen to classical music and very traditional Persian music when I was a kid. Once I got into high school, that is when I began branching out into jazz and pop music.
What is something you’re not so good at but wish you could do well?
I wish I was better time management. Although, every day I actively work on improving it.
If you won the lottery, who is the first person you would tell?
If I were to win the lottery, the first person I would tell is 1000% my sister.
